Maintenance to one set of OIT network load balancers is scheduled for Saturday July 4 at 6am. Maintenance should be complete by 6:30am.
While we anticipate no interruption in service as a result of this work, brief interruptions to load balanced services (email, web, etc.) cannot be entirely ruled out. OIT staff will be monitoring the situation closely and will be ready to quickly respond should such events occur.

In our efforts to improve the availability of the DHCP service provided by OIT Systems Operations, we will be migrating the NSOE, BioSci, and Data Center networks to a newer pair of redundant, fail-over capable DHCP servers on Thursday, 07/02/2009, starting at 06:00AM and lasting no later than 07:00AM.
During the migration, all dhcp servers will remain operative and therefore dynamic dhcp users on NSOE and Bio Sci should see no interruption in their ability to receive an ip address. Because of the static nature of the Data Center networks, and the use, in most cases, of dhcp only upon initial operating system install, there should be no impact to services on those networks.
If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please contact the OIT Help Desk at: 684-2200, help@oit.duke.edu, or at the website: " https://www.dunk.duke.edu/secure/submit/index.html "

[Update - July 1] During our upgrade of ViewsFlash today, we uncovered a problem that was previously undetected in several rounds of testing. In a nutshell, the problem is that surveys that had Webauth authentication enabled in the old version (version 3) -- which would have allowed you to restrict access to users with NetIDs--- are not accessible as expected in the new version. We have identified a solution to this problem, but it will take us some additional time to make manual changes to affected surveys in your polling places so they will work as expected. For this reason, we will be extending the ViewsFlash outage until 2 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday, July 2nd) afternoon. We deeply apologize for any disruption this may cause.
[June 30] The ViewsFlash survey tool will be upgraded from version 3 to version 6 beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1. The upgrade will take approximately 24 hours and ViewsFlash will be unavailable during this time (i.e. you will not be able to access surveys or data related to any surveys in either version).

OIT staff are continuing work on the network load balancer infrastructure to improve availability and performance. As part of these efforts we are working to implement a software code update on our load balancers. Our vendor has suggested this upgrade to mitigate and resolve a bug that is believed to have caused an outage period last Friday morning.
This code upgrade is scheduled for implementation this Friday, July 3 at 6am. Maintenance should be complete by 6:30am. UPDATE: Maintenance is continuing as of 7:45am.
While we anticipate no interruption in service as a result of this work, some aspects of the maintenance will create situations similar to those that have created previous load balancer service interruptions, so a brief interruption to load balanced services (email, web, etc.) cannot be entirely ruled out. OIT staff will be monitoring the situation closely and will be ready to quickly respond should such events occur.
