How can I take out the mobile projector cart, and how do I use it?

Pratt IT has a portable projector cart with a high power projector, Pentium IV computer, and DVD/VHS player. This cart can be reserved and is picked up from 413 Teer. Submit request to it.pratt.duke.edu/help to make a reservation.

Using the computer and projector

Turning the system on:

1. Plug the main cord in to a nearby outlet. The cord is quite long and should reach to a side wall outlet.

2. Turn on the projector by pressing the red power button until the orange LED above it turns green

3. Turn on the computer by pressing the power button on the front of the unit If the power button is flashing, the computer is in standby mode and should boot quickly into Windows

4. You can adjust the height of the LCD monitor by pressing the button at the rear of the base and gently lifting it up

5. If the desktop does not appear, press the Source button on the projector until you see 'Computer' and the desktop

6. There is no mouse - the keyboard has a touchpad below the spacebar. Drag your finger along the touchpad to move the mouse.

Turning the system off:

1. Turn off the projector by pressing the red power button TWICE The power LED will blink orange.

2. Close any applications you had running, but you don't have to logout of the lecture account

3. Press the power button on the PC and it will go into Stand BY mode (the power button will flash)

4. WAIT UNTIL THE PROJECTOR LED STOPS FLASHING BEFORE MOVING THE CART This ensures the projector lamp has cooled to a point where it is safe to move. These projector bulbs cost upwards of $500 each and burn out quickly if the system is moved while that LED is flashing.

5. Once the power LED starts flashing, unplug the main power cord and wind it up. The projector fan will still run off the small UPS installed in the cart. This also keeps the computer in standby mode.

6. Return the cart to 413 Teer - anyone in lab can accept the cart return (Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM)

If nobody is available, please take the cart to your LOCKED office and plug the cart back in to keep the UPS from completely discharged. Call 660-5400 to arrange a drop-off time and to let PTS know you still have the cart.
