How do I request &/or install iFolder?

Getting iFolder for your laptop is very easy. Simply request an iFolder from Pratt IT (be sure to include your Novell ID in your request. We will email you back confirming your iFolder has been enabled. Next you need to install the iFolder client which can be downloaded from here. Install the client by double clicking the downloaded installer package. Accept all the default settings. You will need to restart your computer after installing the client. When you log into your account, you will see a welcome screen similar to this:

Click Continue and you will be prompted to login to the iFolder server. Enter your Novell User ID and password. Set the server address to ifolder.pratt.duke.edu:80. If you would like an icon to appear linking to your iFolder on your desktop, leave that setting checked (we recommend leaving it checked)

Click OK. You will be logged into the iFolder server and will now be prompted to setup your iFolder for the first time. The first setup window you see asks where you want your local iFolder data to be stored. The installer will default to your local computer Documents & Settings folder which is the recommended location. We suggest you change nothing and click 'OK' - but if you want your local iFolder data to be stored elsewhere (say on a different local drive, etc) enter the appropriate path here.

Once you enter the path, the installer will confirm the path - in the example below you see that it will store the iFolder in user "mbaptiste's" account folder. You should see the path you selected previously in the confirmation window. If you don't want iFolder to automatically start, uncheck that option, but we recommend you start it automatically to ensure your data will always sync when you have network access:

The last thing you must do is choose a passphrase. This is a VERY important step! iFolder stores all your data in encrypted form so your data is encrypted when it is transmitted over the network. Thus you must choose a passphrase which will be the 'key' to unlocking your data in iFolder. This pass phrase should NOT be your Novell password and the longer the better. If you leave 'Remember pass phrase' checked you will not need to enter it each time iFolder starts. Make sure you keep your passphrase in a safe place if you do this because you will probably forget what it is. PTS can retrieve forgotten pass phrases if necessary. Also enter a hint to help you remember your phrase should you forget it.

Once you save your passphrase, iFolder will login. You will see the iFolder icon in your system tray turn yellow meaning iFolder is connected and syncing. Your iFolder will have a 3GB quota - this is in addition to your normal Novell home directory and quota. To see the status of your iFolder and how much space you have left, double click the yellow iFolder icon in your system tray and you will see the status window:

Don't forget that you can access your iFolder via any web browser at https://ifolder.pratt.duke.edu/iFolder/ Just click 'Login' to get started. You will need your Novell User ID, password, and iFolder pass phrase to login.
