FAQ
1) Q. How do I create a "test" and a "live" media set so that I can knock the timing down to a second or two for the test?
A. You create the media set and add it to your test category 'Becky-Test' which will only be displayed on your PC.
2) Q. How do I create new media sets and display them on the plasma screen - or my monitor - in other words on any particular host?
A.
1. Click "Add MediaSet".
2. Enter a title.
3. Enter a start and end date, or click 'Infinite time frame for indefinite display.
4. The media category determines which hosts the mediaset will be presented on, so choose a category that reflects presentation of the set of target hosts on which you want this mediaset to be displayed.
5. Specify a default slide timing in seconds. This selection will transfer to all the slides you add to this mediaset.
6. Specify the Display Frequency of this mediaset. Display frequency determines how often this mediaset will appear on the hosts on which it will appear, as compared to the other mediasets within the content category of which this mediaset is a member. Display frequencies are relative, so if all mediasets in a category have a display frequency of 1 then they will be with the same frequency as if each mediaset had a display frequency of 12. The frequency is only meaningful when there is variation between mediasets.
7. Enter the URLs of the slides you want to be included in this mediaset, one per line. Slides can be added or deleted later. This is just a convenient way to complete a bulk add of slides.
8. If you want to enable the mediaset immediately, click 'enable'. When you choose whether to enable the mediaset, keep in mind which content category the mediaset is in (and on which displays content in this category will appear). Also, consider whether all the URLs are correct and whether or not you want to add or remove any slides before the mediaset goes live.
3) Q. What is Infinite Timeframe Display?
A. If you don't want a mediaset to expire, check that box. The start and stop dates are then ignored.
4) Q. Define the difference between Category, Set, Slide (and any other term I'm forgetting) in terms that make sense to a non-technical person.
A.
A slide is essentially a webpage. Each slide is displayed for the number of seconds specified by the slide timing.
A mediaset is a set of slides. The slides in a mediaset are displayed in the order in which they appear in the mediaset.
A content category is a group of mediasets which are displayed in random order, on the hosts with which this category is associated.
A Host in the context of this application is a target display mechanism like a plasma screen, LCD projector or any other such device.
5) Q. When I "delete" something can I get it back?
A. No, but keep in mind, the actual content is not deleted, only the reference to the given URL in the database that runs mediaview.
