Matlab License Renewals

If you are a user of Matlab, you are probably aware of the fact that the license for Matlab is expiring on December 1, 2008.

OIT has renewed the license (and changed the policy so that it will expire in the summer instead of right before the end of the semester).

Pratt IT has now set up a license server on a virtual machine which will allow us to centralize the license for Matlab. This will allow us to update the license when necessary, allowing users to be free from worrying about expiring licenses annually.

However, what this will require is that we update the license on all machines running Matlab. So, if you use any version of Matlab and are currently seeing a warning "Your MATLAB license will expire in x days," we will have to take a look at your machine.

Matlab Licensing for '08-'09

Many Matlab users will find themselves receiving the follwing error:

Your MATLAB license will expire in 60 days.
Please contact your system administrator or
The MathWorks to renew this license.

The Matlab license expires yearly and is renewed on a yearly basis. Pratt IT renews the license on the server, which will cause the notification to cease.

However, users that have a local key will need to contact us for a new license key near the end of November.

10/16 Update:

The new Matlab license should be in place before the end of this month from OIT so there should be no concerns with our current license expiring.

Information Regarding DukeMail Issues

All,

There were several mail performance issues noticed today in our new mail environment. Some users may have experienced outages, sporadic connections or general slowness.

In addition, over the past few days we have been working with our vendor about issues with shared mailboxes that have impacted our overall stability. The instability has impacted all of our users on these systems.

The OIT messaging team will be conducting emergency maintenance to parts of our email infrastructure Friday morning from 2am - 5am. We have received patches from our vendor that are expected to fix these issues. We will be applying these patches during the outage to address the instability we have been experiencing. Users with DukeMail (NetID) mailboxes will be affected. Departmental and Lotus Notes systems will NOT be affected. As a result of the maintenance, some email delays should be expected as queued mail is delivered.
