Matlab Licensing for '08-'09
Many Matlab users will find themselves receiving the follwing error:
Your MATLAB license will expire in 60 days.
Please contact your system administrator or
The MathWorks to renew this license.
The Matlab license expires yearly and is renewed on a yearly basis. Pratt IT renews the license on the server, which will cause the notification to cease.
However, users that have a local key will need to contact us for a new license key near the end of November.
10/16 Update:
The new Matlab license should be in place before the end of this month from OIT so there should be no concerns with our current license expiring.
Information Regarding DukeMail Issues
All,
There were several mail performance issues noticed today in our new mail environment. Some users may have experienced outages, sporadic connections or general slowness.
In addition, over the past few days we have been working with our vendor about issues with shared mailboxes that have impacted our overall stability. The instability has impacted all of our users on these systems.
The OIT messaging team will be conducting emergency maintenance to parts of our email infrastructure Friday morning from 2am - 5am. We have received patches from our vendor that are expected to fix these issues. We will be applying these patches during the outage to address the instability we have been experiencing. Users with DukeMail (NetID) mailboxes will be affected. Departmental and Lotus Notes systems will NOT be affected. As a result of the maintenance, some email delays should be expected as queued mail is delivered.
Thunderbird Client Configuration (post-migration)
If you are experiencing problems with Thunderbird, then you may need to update your account settings. instructions can be found here:

E-mail Issues
Since late Thursday, if you use an e-mail on the OIT ACPUB server (e-mails with inboxes netid@duke.edu) may have noticed issues with their e-mail. This is due to a migration of users from one server to the other by OIT. During this time, you might have issues connecting to the server, opening and sending e-mails, and saving attachments. OIT currently does not have an ETA on when this will be resolved. Please bear with us and know that OIT is working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
Sending and opening attachments oftentimes will not work.
Beware of Phony UPS E-mail
We have received recent reports of e-mails being received from what seems to be a UPS address telling of an undeliverable package. The e-mail contains an attachment posing as an invoice, which is actually a Trojan. You can read more about this here. If you receive such an e-mail, just delete it. Do not open the attachment it contains.
Please be wary when opening attachments of any kind. Sometimes, malware can even be sent from people you know. A short list of

dCal Training Manual
Attached is a dCal Training Manual written by OIT that they shared with Pratt IT. It is the most thorough step-by-step document we have found so far and we thought we would share it with you.
Attached is the 24 page .pdf - - we realize it says "not for use after May 2007," however it will still provide accurate information.
