LECTOPIA/ECHO 360 RECORDING REQUEST AND INFORMATION FORM
PRATT SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, DUKE UNIVERSITY
FALL 2008
Equipped rooms are Schiciano A and B, and Teer 115.
Please note: Lectopia/Echo 360 is an automated classroom capture tool and all course recordings are programmed by Pratt’s Multimedia Specialist in advance of the semester or special event(s).
Pratt IT requires at least five (5) business days turnaround to process these forms (and future limited modifications mid-semester).
All guest speakers (including students and other Duke faculty or staff) are required to sign Pratt’s Recording Release Form which is available at av.pratt.duke.edu. Policy used to require submission of these forms to Pratt IT; this has been amended. The professor or course/event coordinator who fills out this request form is now solely responsible for procuring and maintaining Recording Release Forms. Pratt IT will be under the assumption that if you requested this class/event to be recorded you have secured the appropriate permissions from the speaker(s).
Students must be made aware that the course or event is being recorded and that their image or voice may be captured. It is recommended you post this on your syllabus or Blackboard site; however announcing it in class would suffice.
Please be mindful of only presenting material that you own the rights to.
You are responsible to archiving your own recordings, if you wish to keep them. Easy step-by-step documentation on doing this can be found here: http://it.pratt.duke.edu/archiving_lectopia_recordings. The files live on OIT servers, not Pratt’s. At last check OIT said they keep files on their servers for a couple of years with authentication in tact, but neither Pratt IT nor OIT can be held responsible for the archiving of your recordings.
A sample Lectopia/Echo 360 recording with tips on improving the quality of the video can be found at: http://lectopia.oit.duke.edu/ilectures/ilectures.lasso?ut=196&id=4741 (note: this recording was for Fall 07; however, since there were not any notable changes to the system, this video was not redone.)
Any questions, please contact Pratt’s Multimedia Specialist (marc.sperber@duke.edu).

WHAT FORMATS WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE MADE AVAILABLE ONLINE?
Select one of the following “delivery groups” (all video encoded with QuickTime):
Group 1 (*recommended*): Combination side-by-side configuration of video, VGA, and audio. Also, comes with a separate audio-only file. Streaming and downloadable files will both be available.
Option 1A: video and VGA will be split 50/50 in the window, being equal in size to one another.
Option 1B: VGA will be significantly larger than the video, which makes smaller fonts in Power Point presentations, etc. more legible when being viewed online.
Group 2: Video and audio (no VGA/computer capture). And, a separate audio-only file. Streaming and downloadable files will both be available.
Group 3: VGA and audio (no video camera capture). And, a separate audio-only file. Streaming and downloadable files will both be available.
Group 4: Audio only. Streaming and downloadable files will both be available.
SECURITY OPTIONS
One-time events recordings: One-time event recordings can be made available to the public or can be restricted to Duke-only audiences via a URL that will be sent to you after the recording. If Duke-only is selected, the recording can only be accessed by those with a NetID. (“Public” or “Duke-only”):
Courses: the default will be “authentication required” and a link will be sent to professors to pass on to students. Only students enrolled in the course will be able to view the recordings by logging in with their NetIDs. Lectopia/Echo 360 relies upon Registrar’s SISS database for enrollment data. Unfortunately, a limitation of Lectopia/Echo 360 is that additional users cannot be added. If it is imperative that additional folks get access to your recordings, your two other options are: “Duke only” or “Public.”
