Pratt Mailing Lists
Mailing lists are a popular way for groups to keep in contact via email. Pratt IT has deployed a central mailing list server which is available to everyone in the Pratt community. This server runs the Mailiman software package to provide an easy to use web interface to all mailing lists. So if you are part of an Engineering organization or project looking for an easy way to stay in touch, consider using this service.
In order to use this service, we have only two requirements:
The list must deal with a subject, project, or organization that is somehow related to the School of Engineering
You must agree to abide by all applicable Duke computing regulations including the Duke Group Email Policy
To request a new mailing list, send the following information to lists@pratt.duke.edu
Your Name
Your Affiliation with Pratt (student, faculty, staff)
Your Phone Number
A one word name you want for the list
We'll review your request and if it is acceptable, the list will be created. You will be sent an email with your list owner password which allows you to configure your mailing list via the web. We highly recommend all lists restrict posting to subscribers only due to the number of virus mass mailers that hit mailing lists from people's address books. All lists are created with this restriction.
You can see all of the public mailing lists we currently have by going to http://lists.pratt.duke.edu/listinfo/
If you are an administrator, you can access your mailing list's administration pages at http://lists.pratt.duke.edu/admin/
Mailing lists are wonderful tools, but they can be abused. Be sure to configure your list appropriately to avoid spam, unwanted posts, etc. Any list which is causing widespread problems due to misconfiguration will be shutdown or reconfigured at the discretion of Pratt IT
If you need help configuring your list and/or are unfamiliar with the Mailiman system, send an email to lists@pratt.duke.edu for assistance.
